Biographical Information

 

Carl Ayton is a multi-talented member of the Jamaica Music Industry. He is an accomplished Drummer, Arranger, Producer, Songwriter, Vocalist, Studio Operator and Studio Engineer.

Carl’s professional experiences span more than twenty years. His professional career began in 1975 when he became a member of the then popular Mighty Titans. Between 1978 and 1983 he was a member of the Caribs Band, performing at the Jonkanoo Lounge. Other groups with whom Carl interacted were: Cedric Brooks, Mutual Jazz Players, Jon Williams Electric Trio, Sonny Bradshaw Jazz mobile, Peter Ashbourne & Ashes.

He founded the Blood Fire Posse in 1983 with Danny Browne, Alden Stewart, Donovan Belnavis and Paul Blake. He was also a part of the Bunny Wailer Backing Band since 1982 and still works with these bands. During 1984 and 1985, Carl was part of Judy Mowatt’s Back-up Band.

In 1989 Carl joined the staff of the Jamaica School of Music where he taught Drums for four years. At that time he also joined the Roots Radics Band and has remained with this band to date.

Carl has recorded for artistes like Bunny Wailers, Eric Donaldson, Culture, Echo Minott, Pam Hall, Beres Hammond, ET Webster, Sonia Spence, Denroy Morgan, Dean Fraser, Yellow Man, Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, Toots, Roots Radics,Bloodfire Posse, Sophia George, Doreen Shaffer, Mutabaruka, Oku Onuru, Carlene Davis, Barbara Jones, Lorna Nelson, Delroy Wilson, Robert Ffrench, Carl Dawkins, Triston Palma, Ancel Collins, Chris Stanley, Tamlins, Ken Bob, Eddie Fitzroy, Myrna Hague, Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt, Andrew Tosh, Freddie McGregor, Desi Roots, Psalms, Lasana Bandele, Lloyd Lovindeer, Buffalo Soldiers Nasio Fontaine, Phillip Fraser,Don Carlos.............and more.....

As a Producer, Carl worked with Psalms (formerly Gaylads), Daddy Tar, Captain Blood, ET Webster, Dean Frazer, Bloodfire Posse, Doreen Shaffer, Ken Bob, Robert Ffrench, Earnest Wilson, Pan Head, Tony Rebel, Apache Scratchy, Nardo Ranks, Michael Fabulous, Tippa Lee & Rappa Robert and Desi Roots. Carl had the experience of touring with Bloodfire Posse, Big Youth, U. Roy, Judy Mowatt, Bunny Wailer, Israel Vibration, Roots Radics, Andrew Tosh, Yellow Man, I Kong, Cutty Ranks, Flourgan and Gregory Isaacs.

When Carl is not on tour, he shares his time between his recording studio as a producer of especially new talents and the JAMAICA FEDERATION OF MUSICIANS UNION for which he is the 1st VICE PRESIDENT. He is also one of the founding Directors of JACAP which is the new local Copyright collection agencey that takes over from the PRS in Jamaica.
